American Legacy Magazine Presents Its First “Know Your History” Mobile Tour Exhibit to Visit 12 Cities in February
Rodney J. Reynolds, founder and publisher, American Legacy Magazine, stands inside of the American Legacy “Know Your History” Mobile Museum which will travel through 12 U.S. cities beginning Februrary 1, 2008.

New York, NY (BlackNews.com) - To help Americans know their history and pay homage to Black History Month, American Legacy, the magazine for African-American history and culture, will take a Black History Mobile Exhibit into the neighborhoods of 12 U.S. cities throughout the month of February.

An 18-wheel tractor trailer transformed into a Black history museum, American Legacy’s “Know Your History” Mobile Tour will take Americans on a historical journey in Black history through the pages of American Legacy Magazine.

For the last twelve years, American Legacy Magazine has been educating and entertaining its readers with in-depth stories of African-American history and culture. Just last month, the magazine received national recognition in movie theatres across the country with the release of The Great Debaters–the movie starring and directed by Denzel Washington and produced by Oprah Winfrey–was inspired by a 1997 American Legacy article.

The “Know Your History” tour, sponsored by Greater Philadelphia Tourism, Wachovia Bank and PBS will include: an exhibit of the magazine’s covers highlighting the depth and magnitude of African-American history and culture; an exhibit of historical photographs of famous African-American women such as Coretta Scott King, Betty Shabazz, Aretha Franklin, and Maya Angelou by the renowned photographer Leroy Henderson; and, a Genealogy Kiosk where visitors can log onto www.ancestry.com and search for their ancestors by using the 1930 census. In addition, visitors to the interactive exhibit will also have a chance to win prizes when they test their knowledge of African-American history with American Legacy’s Black History Wheel.

“This is another giant step in the history of American Legacy Magazine where we move closer to our mission of teaching our history and helping to restore pride and self-esteem to those in and outside of our community, specifically our young people, who do not know their history,” says Rodney J. Reynolds, founder and publisher, American Legacy Magazine. “This unique experience will be just another approach to help them feel good about where they’ve been and give them hope on what they can achieve.”

American Legacy’s “Know Your History” Mobile Tour cities and dates are as follows: Detroit, MI, February 1; Cleveland, OH, February 2; Atlanta, GA, February 5-6; Charlotte, NC, February 8-9; Norfolk, VA, February 11; Richmond, VA, February 12; Washington, DC, February 14-16; Baltimore, MD, February 18-19; Philadelphia, PA, February 21; Newark, NJ, February 22-23; Harlem, NY, February 25; Mt. Vernon, NY, February 26; and, New York City February 27-28. The tour manager is Mobility Resource Associates, Inc. of Taylor, MI.

This multi-city tour culminates in New York City at American Legacy Magazine’s 9th Annual Women of Strength & Courage Awards Ceremony which salutes five women for their contributions to American history. This year’s honorees include: Juanita Abernathy, civil rights activist and widow of Southern Christian Leadership Conference Leader, Reverend Ralph Abernathy; Evelyn Ashford Washington, an Olympian sprinter; Constance Baker Motley, former associate counsel who served for the NAACP Legal Defense Fund; Immaculee Ilibagiza, a Rwandan author and motivational speaker; and, the legendary singer Mary Wilson.

American Legacy Magazine is distributed nationwide to over 2 million readers through black churches, educational and cultural institutions. Celebrating its 12th year, American Legacy Magazine is available on newsstands and through paid subscriptions. American Legacy is a joint venture between RJR Communications Inc. and Forbes Inc.
